Captain's Log: Beyond the Holodeck

I remember sitting down with my Dad when I was a kid and watching my first Star Trek episode with Captain Kirk. I have not missed a single one since. Yes I proudly call myself a Sci-fi Geek and more specifically a Trekkie. I’ve boldly followed the final frontier voyages of Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway and Archer.

Exhibit Design and Your Budget - Spend your way to an Effective Display

It’s important to consider how much funding to allocate to display design bearing in mind that Trade Shows are an extremely visual medium.

Custom modular displays are gaining in popularity and offer exhibitors custom-built style with the added advantage of being able to be repurposed. Components may be rearranged to offer fresh floor layouts or serve in smaller spaces and be augmented to expand into larger island venues. Many companies are spreading the budgetary impact of their display investment over several events to achieve a positive ROI on each event. Before you start the design process you should ask yourself what other spaces you want the ability to use your display in, to further leverage your investment.



Equally important are the significant savings in operational and ownership costs exhibitors realize with a custom modular display. Quick Check Tips on Maximizing your Trade Show ROI

You might want to take a more detailed look at how your organization is managing the valuable leads generated by your trade shows. Odds are fairly good that you can improve the ROI on your tradeshow investments. To help you do that, here are helpful quick check tips:

Quick Check – Step 1
At the end of your next trade show, collect all leads and give them to one person to conduct follow up calls to qualify and rate the leads. This typically includes asking the following questions:

• Do you have an upcoming need for our product or service?
• Do you have a specific timeframe when you will need our product or service?
• Can I schedule a time and day for a representative to follow up with you?

You then forward the leads to your sales team. Remember, it’s important that these calls are made immediately after the event. You want the event to be fresh in your prospects’ minds. You also do not want to delay delivery to your sales team.

Quick Check – Step 2
Two weeks after your leads are delivered to sales, have the same person who qualified the leads after the show follow-up again. They will call as a courtesy to make sure that potential customers have received everything they needed. While on the phone with the prospect, they will ask:

• Did they have a chance to speak with one of our representatives?
• Are they still planning on making a purchase?
• If they did make a purchase, who did they go with and why?

Utilizing the Quick Check process is a win-win for sales and management. Sales receive pre-qualified leads and possible opportunities to follow-up for an appointment.

Management, on the other hand, captures important information, including:

• Initial value of your leads
• Plans for purchase
• Sales team follow-up
• Market specific data on competitors

Once you have captured all this information, you will be able to make the adjustments necessary to maximize your trade show ROI.

Six ways to make your brand stand out at a trade show.

Other than a stunning display, what will make your company really stand out from the crowd of competitors on the show floor?

Sponsorship opportunities abound at most shows. Here are some show venues, tools and occasions where you can have maximum brand exposure and ensure that attendees and prospects will keep you in mind. 

• Signage on directional signage to the show, at the entrance, in the registration area or aisles overhead.
• Visitor registration badges
• Registration bags provided to all visitors
• Networking functions such as breakfast, lunch, refreshment breaks or after-party
• Room key cards at the host hotel
• Door drops/hangers at the hotel room of show registrants

Is it all about the Premium at a Trade Show?

When most tradeshow attendees arrive at the show floor, they scan the hall and start eyeing booths like shopping stalls. And luring these attendees to your space takes out-of-the-box creativity and of course, “unconventional premiums, tschotschkes or giveaways.”

In fact, giveaways are found to be very effective in making an impact on attendees’ perceptions. A recent university exit interview study of trade show attendees revealed that 76% had a favorable attitude toward the company that gave them the premium.

We once provided a mini shopping cart and gift card. The 5-inch tall shopping cart was branded with our online shop’s site address. Each cart came with a gift card that gave an exhibitor free Rolluxe cases for any 8’ or 10’ Instand display purchased online.

To help you select your promotional giveaway, here are some pointers for you to:

1.    Consider your target audience. Plan to get qualifying information from visitors before dispensing gifts. You may want to invest in higher priced gifts for key clients and have lower cost items for other visitors.

2.    Determine what you want the premium to do for you. Do you want it to:

♣    Generate traffic to your booth?
♣    Increase awareness of your message to attendees?
♣    Promote the introduction of a new product/service?
♣    Educate visitors about your key advantages?
♣    Serve as a token of appreciation for stopping?

Concept 2 Consumer (C2C) launched their new company that offers a complete range of services for the direct response marketing and sale of consumer goods. The show draws over 3,000 visitors interested in direct-to-consumer commerce through television and online. Members include prominent retail merchants such as eBay, HSN, and QVC.

Client Need
C2C wanted an island display that was open and welcoming yet bright, and eye catching to get noticed on the show floor. Functionally, the design needed to provide areas for meetings with guests. In addition, C2C wanted a modular display that could be reconfigured to fit an inline space for other events.

Solution
C2C’s show goals were to generate opportunities with new prospective customers and to network with people they might possibly work with in the future. Mostre Design worked with Nomadic to propose a high touch environment with a fresh approach. A tall archway constructed of aluminum and punched metal provided height for corporate signage and defined space without closing it off to aisle traffic. C2C’s logo features bright green so a carpet of the same color was chosen to grab attention and establish recognition for their brand. Opposite the archway, the open space was split between two casual seating areas for small group meetings.

Blizzard conditions (Brrr!) in the DC metro area last week doesn't stop production.

I have one word for you...

"Blizzard"

I never thought I would say that word in conjunction with the DC Metro Area. As Nomadic endured the biggest snow storm, in DC history with 33". DC came to a standstill last week as 2 blizzards ransacked the Metro area, people stayed in doors and hunkered down with blankets and cocoa. There were snowball fights to plan, igloo's to build, icicles to avoid and tons of shoveling to do. It took us 6 hours to dig out 2 cars.

Nomadic was "officially" shut down for 4 of the 5 work days. But being a manufacturing company we still had product to produce and customers to support. I'm proud to say we have some highly dedicated people working here. To meet our firm deadlines many of our employees braved these blizzard conditions and made it into work. Here are a few photos that were taken around our building last Friday.
